Author: Your Cherished Birth

My name is Samantha Mehaffey, I'm a wife and a mother of five. My husband served in the Military for 8 years and during that time I birthed two of my five children and served a few people as a volunteer doula, now he is working in the civilian world and we've added a third and fourth and fifth child (all born at home). I've increased my business and I've become a licensed midwife in the state of Michigan. I LOVE this job almost as much as I love raising my children. Bringing babies into the world through prayer and sound evidenced based practice is the best feeling in the world!

April 19, 2013April 19, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

I've read so many birth stories, I LOVE them, but I shy away from telling my own, especially on this website, I have mentioned the specifics a few times here and there but do not share the whole story often, and when I do I usually like to do so in person so that I… Continue reading Birth Experience

Keeping your bag intact

April 18, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

I have often thought that the bag of waters could be beneficial to a baby during labor, but in the beginning believed that it was just something that would eventually break during labor and that was normal too.. while that IS normal it isn't necessarily natural, which I'm learning over and over again can be… Continue reading Keeping your bag intact

Interesting…

April 11, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

I just read an article that said that Michigan has some of the fewest births per 1000 women, in the country. I can only speculate as to why this is, but it sort of strikes me as sad, our state could be thriving, but really isn't.  Just seven years ago I personally couldn't wait to get OUT… Continue reading Interesting…

Another Birth story, this time a bit different

April 7, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

So normally I like to entertain people with really empowering stories about women who birth their babies without the use of pain medications, but this story came to my attention and while I read it I really felt connected to the author, Kaitlin, I'm not saying her story isn't empowering, it really is, though in… Continue reading Another Birth story, this time a bit different

Childbirth Education

March 23, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

I just finished up the last week of my first childbirth education class, it was truly a joy to teach!  I'm sure I forgot important things, but I also feel that I did the best I could, and I'm ready and excited to be preparing for the next class in June!  The dates are yet… Continue reading Childbirth Education

Simply Wonderful!

March 3, 2013March 3, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

VBAC is often a subject of interest for me, and I love to support women through their births, so when I find a story about VBAC, or even about supporting a mom through labor I can't resist the read, however, this story is one of the best I've read in awhile.  I'm still recovering from the… Continue reading Simply Wonderful!
