Author: Your Cherished Birth

My name is Samantha Mehaffey, I'm a wife and a mother of five. My husband served in the Military for 8 years and during that time I birthed two of my five children and served a few people as a volunteer doula, now he is working in the civilian world and we've added a third and fourth and fifth child (all born at home). I've increased my business and I've become a licensed midwife in the state of Michigan. I LOVE this job almost as much as I love raising my children. Bringing babies into the world through prayer and sound evidenced based practice is the best feeling in the world!

The traveling doula

September 29, 2014 Your Cherished Birth

For my friends and family (whom I most often serve) I have become a traveling doula. Yes they could get a doula in their own city, but part of having a doula is building a relationship with her, a trust. So for anyone checking out my calendar you will see I'm not available during the… Continue reading The traveling doula

July 4, 2014 Your Cherished Birth

inspiration

June 3, 2014 Your Cherished Birth

When a woman consults me to accompany her through labor the conversation will sometimes lead to the wonderful gift of oxytocin that God has given us to forget the pain in the moment that our babies are born.  Today I was reading my bible and came across this verse that so accurately says it.  John… Continue reading inspiration

Adrenaline and Oxytocin are not friends

September 15, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

What gets you bothered? Is it the idea of medical intervention?  tubes and wires extended from your body?  Is it who will or wont be available when you are in labor?  The babysitter might not answer their phone, your husband might be at work and you can't reach him, someone wants to attend and you don't… Continue reading Adrenaline and Oxytocin are not friends

Slow start to education

August 27, 2013 Your Cherished Birth

My very first class offered had one student, and what a blessing she was to me!  bearing with a new teacher can not be easy on anyone, and I can't thank her enough for completing the class and I pray she took something helpful with her from it.  Though I don't claim to have been the… Continue reading Slow start to education
