Fertility and Preconception Support

Before becoming pregnant it is important to be in optimal health. For this reason I offer consultation to women considering pregnancy, or who have had difficulty getting or staying pregnant.  This service is specific to the needs of each woman and may include nutritional counseling, lab work, or emotional support while waiting to become pregnant.

It is incredibly important to understand how your body works in a normal menstrual cycle and when pregnancy is possible in order to see the signs of illness, or to optimize the timing of intercourse to result in pregnancy or the avoidance of pregnancy.  I offer training and consultation on how to discover the language of your body.

I also feel this is the perfect time to begin discussing the options for pregnancy care, and what it looks like to consider home or hospital based care.  While I do not offer hospital care, I do offer transitional care, consults, and co-care options to those who are uncertain, or want an extra level of support for their pregnancy or birth.

Pregnancy Care

During these appointments we will discuss your health history, current health (including a blood pressure and urine dipstick check) and any emotional, mental, or physical factors that may be affecting your pregnancy.  We will also check on the health of your baby by measuring your womb, and feeling the position of the baby, as well as listening to the heart rate using a doppler. (I also offer to use an amplified stethoscope for those wishing to avoid ultrasound/doppler use).

Because I believe that midwifery should be accessible for all, I also am strongly dedicated to teaching new midwives, you can expect at least one student/assistant midwife to be involved in your birth and prenatal care throughout your time with Your Cherished Birth.

I also strongly believe that Jesus is a very present help in time of need, so you can be assured that I am praying for you, your family and your baby… and if you are hurting and need prayer, or celebrating and want to rejoice, I will join you in that space.

Labor and Birth Care

Starting at 36 weeks I am officially ‘on call’ for my clients births (prior to this point it is not legal to have a home birth, and I would transfer care to a local hospital, but attend with you if you desire my presence).  I will come to your home or birthing location and stay with you once active labor is established.  During this time my team and I will set up our supplies, monitor you and your baby for any signs of distress, and help you to navigate the process of your birth.

Once your baby is born my team and I will check you for tears (and suture them if needed), perform a full newborn exam, help you to establish breastfeeding, clean up our equipment and supplies, take out the trash, and separate the laundry (starting it if we are able), get you something to eat, check your vitals and baby’s, and give you some discharge instructions before leaving you and your little one tucked in bed together.

Postpartum Care

In-home visits between 24 and 36 hours after the baby is born, and at 3 and 7 days post birth will be scheduled shortly after the birth of your baby.  At these visits you can expect my team to check on the health and well being of you and your baby, discuss how breastfeeding and newborn care is going, and offer your baby the hearing screen, newborn blood spot screening and CCHD screening.  If you are in need of help preparing a meal, or getting a shower, this is a perfect time to ask for assistance as well.

Follow up visits will be scheduled in my office for 3 and 6 weeks postpartum.  These visits will include discussion of healing for mama, and growth for the  baby. This is a perfect time to discuss future family planning, postpartum mood disorders, family adjustments, and whether further support is necessary.

Well Woman Care

Sometimes we just don’t want to schedule a visit with a stranger, if you have concerns for your health, need some labs run, or would like to have a pap smear, please call and schedule a visit with me.
